Child Town Planners

(2020)

I collaborated with company WeMadeThat- responding to a live brief to improve a “15 minute city” within London. I collaborated with three designers to focus on exploring and improving the city from the perspective of children, and over 7 weeks we investigated the city to identify and understand their social values within our local community be it geographical or anthropological.

For our final outcome, we created a playscape that accommodates all ages and is engaging for many. Imaginative play-object ‘add-ons’ and interventions allow for child inclusivity through functions of play. These, building upon the existing environment within the 15-minute city illustrate the expansion of play, through building upon play, beyond the playground. We have all become accustomed to the covid floor sticker. We've recognised this as an effective method of altering pavements and flooring in adult spaces, hence our “lava sticker”.

Parody Zine

To investigate the 15 minute city from the perspective of children, we produced a parody zine of the Mayor of London guide on making London child-friendly. This zine showcases our many photoshop visualisations of potential designs, but also dissects and analyses how adults have approached children as a market group before.
